Manny Legace and Curtis Sanford combined for 23 saves to hand the Detroit Redwings their first shutout in 176 games. Bill Guerin scored the lone goal for the Blues.
Legace was run by Tomas Holmstrom towards the end of the second period. He stayed in the game, but took himself out the next stopage in play. Sanford finished up the game.
