Blues Beat Wings in Shootout

Despite giving away another third period lead, the Blues defeated the rival red wings in a shootout Tuesday Night in St. Louis. Paul Kariya Scored twice, including his first goal at Scottrade this season.

Andy McDonald scored in the third to make it 3-1, but an all-to-familiar scene unfolded as the Blues gave up the lead after a couple of lucky bounces that went Detroit's way.

T.J. Oshie and Brad Boyes scored in the shootout, while Chris Mason stopped two of the three shots he faced, sealing the victory.

The Blues have not lost to Detroit in regulation this season, and with one game left in the series (March 24 in Detroit) they have a chance to go undefeated in regulation against the red wings for the first time since the 1980-81 season.

Mason, Backes Push Blues Past Blackhawks

The Blues scored 3 goals during a second period surge to beat the Blackhawks 3-2 in Chicago. David Backes scored two goals and Chris Mason made 32 saves to preserve the victory.

The Hawks took the lead early in the first when Patrick Kane scored on a breakaway after blocking a point shot from Roman Polak. The Blues tied it up late in the second when Paul Kariya fed David Backes from behind the net. Backes scored again on the power play with 1:31 left in the second. Jay McClement added the third goal on a deflection set up by a nice redemption play from Polak with 22 seconds left in the second. A third period goal from Marian Hossa made the game interesting, but Mason held on to get the Blues two points on the road. The win puts the Blues into 12th place, 5 points out of playoff spot with a game in hand on most teams.

Blues Lose Close One Against Columbus

The Blues lost 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at home after scoring late in the third period to tie the game. David Backes scored on the power play late in the first to tie the score at 1-1. Columbus took the lead on a 5 on 3 power play after yet another penalty in a long line of a recent bullshit calls against the Blues. (How do you get one penalty out of a crease scrum?) Andy McDonald scored on an earned power play with 1:35 left in the game. Columbus scored 1:32 into overtime to win, and end a nine game losing streak in St Louis.
